Angel Ramirez
Angel Ramirez is a queer Latino dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist originally from El Salvador and now based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Angel is the artistic director and founder of Angel Ram Dance. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Angel brings both cultural depth and accessibility to his artistry and teaching.
His movement foundation was shaped through rigorous training at the prestigious CityDance Conservatory in Bethesda, MD, under the mentorship of renowned artists including Lorraine Spieler, Stanislav Issaev, Robert Priore, and Keith Thomas. In May 2023, Angel furthered his artistic development by earning a diploma as a professional choreographer from the ICONS Choreographic Dance Institute at the ATLAS Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC, directed by Vladimir Angelov. His culminating work, Renacimiento, premiered as a one-act contemporary ballet.
As a performer and collaborator, Angel has co-choreographed and performed alongside D.C. artists such as Gabriel Mata, Tabata Vara, and Victoria Davis. His performance credits include works presented by leading dance companies such as Bruce Wood Dance, Koresh Dance, YY Dance Company, and Alex Neoral’s Focus Cia de Dança. Additionally, he has performed pieces by acclaimed choreographers including Earl Mosley, Micah Geyer, Robert J. Priore, Gabriel Mata, Agatha Wright, Darion Smith and Shu-Chen Cuff.
Dedicated to fostering the next generation of dancers, Angel has contributed significantly to the local dance community. He has coached Latin dance at Blake High School, leading students to performance and competition opportunities, including a first-place award at the MCPS Latin Dance Competition. His choreography has been presented on some of the region’s most prestigious stages, including the Kennedy Center, Capital One Hall, Strathmore Arts Center, Atlas Performing Arts Center, Dance Place, and Joe’s Movement Emporium.
In 2025, Angel premiered his first full evening length program, "Where I belong," at Joes Movement Emporium. Rooted In community, where I belong included a all inclusibve level salsa community workshop following with performances showcasing works by Angel, featured guest artist performances, and a moderated talkback led by Manuel Cuellar
Currently, Angel is a teaching artist at Dance Loft on 14, where he leads adult contemporary classes and youth programs both in-studio and off-site in partnership with DC Public Schools. Passionate about accessibility in the arts, he recently launched a series of free and low-cost community
dance events designed to remove financial barriers and provide inclusive opportunities for engagement, connection, and creative expression.
His artistic mission is rooted in community, cultural identity, and the transformative power of dance, as he strives to inspire future generations while contributing to the vibrancy of the DMV dance landscape.
